Part of our daily tasks is the regeneration of hydraulic components like piston rods, sealed housings or guidances. Satisfied customers from this area are amongst others the engineering company Zeppelin, company Kähler as well as Berlin’s public cleansing service BSR.
In case of worn or damaged pistons oil that is being pressed through the gasket leads certainly to loss of performance. Furthermore the environment will be badly polluted, and the oil must be refilled regularly.
As investment in new hydraulic pistons is unfortunately very expensive a lot of construction machine companies will take these steps much later. But regeneration of one of these elements is very reasonable in price. As coating material chromium steel 1.4122, sprayed through HVOF, has been proven as the most suitable. In this process the layers’ characteristics will be positively influenced regarding wear resistance by the presence of chromium oxide in the coatings. Aluminium bronze –CuAl8- is especially suitable because of its durability. Of course, according to customers’ requirements every available material in form of wire or powder can be applied as a coating material.
The coating thicknesses can vary from a few hundredths of a millimetre to several millimetres. There are nearly unlimited variations of coating compounds. Through the slight heating of the base materials to approx. 100°C no damaging structural changes, distortion or warping appear.
